Plumbing in Sydney Tips: What to Do when Dripping Tap is Driving You Crazy

imagesA lot of things could easily drive people mad, and one of those things is hearing a dripping tap. Times like this, you need professional plumbing know-how to quench the madness you could be going through.

A dripping tap is no refreshing matter. In fact, you need to take care of it right away, because a dripping tap could waste well over 2,000 litres of water each month. That’s why either you take care of it if you know how or you need to call on contractors specialising in plumbing in Sydney if you couldn’t spot the exact problem that’s causing your tap to drip.

In most cases, a dripping tap is caused by a worn-out washer. If you are a licensed plumber, you can quickly fix it on your own. If you’re not, keep in mind that there are areas where water authorities require that you should have a licensed plumber work on your plumbing problems.

But just because you can’t fix it, doesn’t mean you can’t do anything about it. There are little things you can do while waiting for your friendly Sydney plumbers to come by:

Adjust the tap

See if turning the tap a bit tighter could do the trick. However, be cautious. Turning it a little too hard could worsen the problem.

Recycle

Don’t let those dripping water go to waste! Put a bucket, a sponge or mop under the drip. All the water that can be collected can be used to water the plants, wash the car or even for giving the dog a bath. You can also use the water collected to clean the bathroom and other parts of the home.

Minimise the noise (for those annoyed by the sound of dripping)

See if you could adjust the spout so that the water drips directly into the drain. That way, the drip will silently fall down because it’s not hitting the sink.

Take note of the dripping problem

It’s best to write down your observations on the problem before the plumbers turn up. Write down how fast the drip goes and other things you’ve observed that are pertinent to the problem. This way, you can provide useful information that could help the plumbers in assessing what needs to be done when they’ve finally arrived.

Don’t take risks. Dripping tap is one of the most common plumbing problems in Sydney that when left unfixed, could prove costly.
